With IVF you stay with the fertility clinic until you reach 9 weeks. Your first ultra sound is at 7 weeks, which is 4 weeks after your blood draw pregnancy test.
I had no idea what to expect. My mom came with me. We stepped into the room and I laid on the table waiting for the nurse to come back in. my heart was pounding in anticipation.
The nurse finally came back in and said we’d likely be able to hear the heart beat at this ultrasound but not always.
I laid there watching the screen “we have a baby” as a dark spot showed up in the screen. And there it was…the heartbeat
I will never forget that sound. The fast beating of his little heartbeat. I was still in shock of everything happening. My mom was crying. I just keep staring at the screen trying to wrap my head around the fact that this little blob was my baby!!
Fun fact, my mom was recording the heartbeat so we could send it to my dad, brother and sister-in-law….or we thought it was recording. She missed hitting the record button so when she did hit it, we were done and it’s just our conversation after. She was pretty upset but little does she know, her reaction that she filmed is just as priceless as hearing the heartbeat. The sounds of his heart will forever be engraved in my brain.
The next ultrasound was 2 weeks later and was my last one with the fertility clinic. After that I was to move to my regular OBGYN for the rest of the pregnancy.
When we got this picture my mom said it looked like a baby pig so that’s all I see now when I look at it.
